Louise of Fife's Wedding

Tralalalaaa!! I'm back, hurrah. Now, just a very brief post today. Whyte Fairy was looking for a front view of Louise of Fife's wedding dress, so I've discovered two less helpful than I thought piccies.

Yay, it's EVERYONE. Well, I say everyone, I mean the bride, groom and bridesmaids... Well, L to R standing: Toria, MacDuff, Louise, Mary, someone, someone else. Seated L to R: Maud, Marie Louise, ?? and Thora. Yay. Sorry the flowers obscure most of her dress, but there's a view of the bottom of it coming up. Louise looks so happy here. :)

Wow. Thanks for that Victorian Era. I've never actually seen another wedding photo quite like this one before. I have to say that it did make me chuckle a bit. That definitely is Louise by the way, but doesn't it look a bit like Bertie's left hand is a false one? Either that or he's practicing his robot dancing for the reception after the wedding. He's also brought his favourite armchair with him too.

Well, that's it for now, sorry it's so short, but I needed to do something to show that I'm still here, collecting these phoooootos. Anyhoo, tara for now.
:)

  1. Wait just one red-hot second! Comments on the wedding to be had later. but FIRST:

The earliest photo I've been able to find of QVic is 1844. Then I found this:

Says it's her. Looks like her. Says it's from 1840. I am skeptical, as I WANT it to be her because it's FANTASTIC. But this is the only site I've managed to find it on. Thoughts???

  2. ARGH! It really does look like her - I mean REALLY. I'm not sure if it's really 1840 though, as PA was the first royal to be photographed in 1842, but even so, it's an AMAZING photo.
I've got a few more photos that are definitely her, but ones I've only found in one place. I'm sure it is her, though the date's debatable, but it is the 1840s from her dress. She looks a bit older than 21 as well...

But WOW and thank you - that was GREAT start to my morning. I keep looking at it - I'm SURE it's her. But I don't think it's 1840... :DD

  3. Fantastic picture of Louise with her father!

As for the linked photo of Victoria, which you later posted, it's amazing. I would date it to the early 1850s. The inexpensive stereoviewer was invented in 1850 and shown at the Great Exhibition in 1851, where Victoria praised it, and it then became a craze. The London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company was founded in 1854, but there would have been earlier makers, probably including the inventor of the viewer, Sir William Brewster. Then the invention of the plate glass negative in 1851 made mass production of images possible.

    Definitely a wonderful find!

  4. Yay! I've evidently found an expert - thank you very much for all the information. I'm pretty awful at dating photos, as I can only judge by the clothes and ages of the people in them. Glad you like my photos! :)
